In late August 2025,
It's Friday the 22nd, just before the start of the end of summer.
The kanji character "所" in "所祭" means "to stop."
It's the time when the heat starts to ease a little.
The intense heat that has continued since July
It feels like things are finally coming to a close.
At night, the autumn insects, bell crickets, begin to chirp .
Also, this time of year in Japan...
Since it is the anniversary of the end of the war,
It's also a time when people often think about war.
So today's blog is
Including what you said,
A study of chinocloth trousers, a representative example of wartime clothing.
At Dry Bones,
This masterpiece has been produced for over 35 years.
We have chino cloth trousers with the product number "41 khaki."
This is it, 41 Khaki type Trousers .

We all know the original source: 41 Khaki Combat Uniform.
In 1941, it was officially adopted by the US military at the start of the Pacific War.
No-tuck utility trousers made of chino cloth.
In this photo, everyone except MacArthur is wearing them (MacArthur is wearing non-military trousers with two tucks).
This 41 Khaki would go on to determine the direction of future "chinos."
Its features are...

Distinctive metal buttons (vintage ones are engraved with US.NAVY),
Precision-crafted double-welt pockets,
Integrated waist belt that stands up from the body...

Delicate waist darts,
The thin belt loops are center offset,
The pith pockets are also beautiful double-welt pockets.
And most distinctive of all,
This "khaki color" .
The origin of the word KHAKI is the Indian Hindu word for "dust."
In the early 1800s,
Apparently, when British ruled India, soldiers wore pure white trousers.
In the dusty Indian soil, it stands out and gets dirty.
Apparently it was unpopular among the soldiers.
So the regimental commander,
Those white trousers...
Apparently they were dyed an earthy color using a mixture of curry powder, coffee, etc.
The locals called out "KHAKI!"
It seems that this color became established as "khaki."
People who immigrated to the Americas from England, France, and the Netherlands
They settled mainly in the northern East Coast and the Southwest.
In particular, people who immigrated from the UK experienced the Industrial Revolution in their home country,
After moving to the northeastern United States, they established secondary industries.
This also includes people who immigrated from the Netherlands .
And the time is the 1860s.
The industrial powers of the north,
The southern agricultural (cotton) powers
Slavery led to a civil war that divided the country.
This is what is known as the "Civil War."
Among those who emigrated from the UK,
Some served in India.
The immigrants from the Netherlands
I used to work in factories wearing "knickerbockers," the country's work trousers .

Here, we have the British "khaki" and
The Dutch brand "Knickerbockers" has been fused together...
Khaki color, with spindles at the hem to fasten.
America's first "military pants" were born.

After that, the width of the crotch is as wide as knickerbockers,
By eliminating the spindle at the hem,
We streamlined the process by creating trousers that are wide from the waist down to the hem .
The United States ended with the victory of the Union Army...
He later won the war against Spain,
He will rule the Philippines.
These days, there is no spindle anymore,
Chino cloth trousers, which are wide from the crotch to the hem, were officially adopted .
At that time, from China, which is close to the Philippines,
We have decided to purchase a large quantity of thick cotton twill fabric.
That's why the fabric was named "chino cloth" (= Chinese fabric) .
And Dry Bones has interpreted it in their own way and planned it.
The Civil War Type Chino-cloth Trousers are here!

When planning these trousers,
I was thinking of checking out some vintage clothing from that time...
It's hard to find clothes from the 1860s in Japan today (lol)
So I looked into European and American vintage items from the 1900s to 1930s.
What we can all say in common is...
All of the used clothing is wide and straight from the crotch to the hem.
First up are French work trousers from the 1920s.

Comes with a back strap
The centre back has a V-shaped cut.
The material is brown duck,
The belt loops are in a weird position.

The back style is inspired by that image.
Pockets only on the right side.
Belt loops are necessary in modern times,
Equipped with offset.

These are German work trousers from the 1930s.
See how to attach the back straps to these trousers.
The back strap is tucked into the back dart.

A view of the front part opened.
The metal hook on the top
An accessory used on custom-made trousers at the time.
It is riveted and sturdy.
The highlight is the piping next to the buttonhole.
this is…

The idea was conceived after seeing wool trousers from around the 1900s.
At that time, there was no serger machine yet,
It is "cut off" as shown in this photo.
This specification makes it a bit difficult to wash chinos with lots of water.
So the piping is finished like it was made to order.
The result is a truly beautiful pair of chinos.
As mentioned above...
"Newly created chinos with an old era setting,"
A mark was sewn onto the pants saying they were made by Dry Bones.
Compared to 41 khaki,
The silhouettes are so different.

About this last week,
Macky has written about it on his blog , so please take a look.
Something that felt like summer this summer.
At the beach just before the local fireworks display.

Sunset, Mount Fuji, and the passenger ship Nippon Maru.
This was followed by a spectacular fireworks display.
The weather was great and it was fantastic!
See you later.
