2022年処暑の酒丸。

Sakemaru in the midst of the summer heat of 2022.

We have passed August 23rd, which is the beginning of the end of heat.
This is Sakemaru.
It's still pretty hot during the day,
A cool breeze is starting to blow in the mornings and evenings.
From evening to night, you can hear the sounds of insects such as bell crickets and pine crickets.

And last Sunday...
Mowing the grass at a nearby shrine in preparation for the local festival.
There are four shrines in my neighborhood.
I am in charge of one of them, Mishima Shrine.

When I arrived at the shrine, I was stunned.

It's almost a jungle... (sweat)
Not only the worship hall, but even the approach to the shrine was nowhere to be found...
So I worked up a sweat with the local young people…

Look, it's so beautiful!
I was relieved that it was completed beautifully before the festival.
I think this will satisfy the local gods.

Now.
With temperatures like this, some people may be worried about what to wear.
So here are some perfect items.

Here it is!
A natural indigo dyed gacha pocket work shirt made of linen!

Linen is generally thought of as a material for summer, isn't it?
The reason for this is that it is highly hygroscopic.
High moisture absorption...
Even if your body sweats, the fibers will quickly absorb it and release it to the outside.
That's it.
This is because the cross section of the fiber is curved and bent inward.
It is said to be four times more absorbent than cotton and ten times more absorbent than silk.
In other words, it is a material that feels cool when worn during hot weather.
However.
In Japan, until the mid-Edo period, linen was the main material used for kimonos (cotton came into circulation later on).
Asama is widely used in religious ceremonies as it is a material given by God.
Since it was also easy to dye, it was the most commonly used material for a long time.
However, as trade with overseas countries became more active during the Meiji period,
Production volume gradually decreased due to competition from cheap cotton and chemical fibers...
After World War II, under the direction of GHQ,
The hemp material, a gift from Shinto, is said to be related to cannabis.
It was almost banned (and still is).

Originally, linen was a material that was worn all year round in Japan.
If it has good moisture absorption properties, it would be a waste to use it only as a summer material.
Rather, it is around September to October, which is the beginning of autumn.
"Short sleeves are out of season, but it's still hot out."
It's the perfect material to wear!

And wondering how to wash it.
Hemp and linen become stronger when wet.
So you can wash it in the washing machine.
However, be sure to use water as hot water will cause the fibers to shrink.
After I bought this shirt,
I tried washing it in my washing machine at home.
As a result, there was almost no shrinkage.
I think it will vary depending on each household's washing machine and water temperature, etc.
Also, since linen is a material that easily fades, we recommend drying it in the shade.
Especially since this shirt is dyed with natural indigo.
(The color will fade, especially at first, so be careful.)

Furthermore!
We also have shirts dyed with indigo and discharged using Wabash dye !

Close-up of the material.

The rough texture of the fabric is perfect for the coming season!

Personally, I think hemp and linen are great materials to wear at this time of year.
So this season, we decided to plan and produce autumn items.
I highly recommend it!

Hanae Mori, a leading Japanese designer,
He passed away this month.
In 1965,
The first international collection was presented in New York in the year I was born.
He was the first Japanese person to be praised as "EAST MEETS EAST."
By incorporating kimono patterns such as Yuzen into clothing fabrics,
He was a great man who spread Japanese aesthetic sense throughout the world.

The glass plates she designed are
It was unearthed at his parents' home two years ago.

This is a piece that is very much like her, who is also nicknamed "Madame Butterfly."
I think there are still a few left at Dry Bones Tokyo.

Available at a relatively low price.

Diameter approximately 16 cm.
A lovely refreshing taste that goes well with cake and cut fruit.
