2024年芒種の酒丸。

2024 Manggong Sakemaru.

We have reached the year 2024.
This is Sakemaru.
What is "Mangzhong"?
It means the time to sow grain seeds such as rice and wheat.
In Japan, seedlings are planted in rice paddies, so the timing is different.
The character "茒" means the tip of an ear.
In kun reading, it is read as "nogi".
It seems to have the same meaning as the kanji character "nogihen."
The rice fields in my neighborhood,
At this time of year, the lush green seedlings are in full growth and are beautiful.

By the way, the other day,
At the roadside station Green Farm , where we deliver our products,
I made a wonderful purchase.

Bright red lilies!

So seductive!
It's lasting a long time and it's already been 2 weeks.
Just having something beautiful nearby
It makes my heart flutter!

Well, today we'd like to introduce some exciting items.
This is it!
Recently arrived,
Irregular argyle socks!

Irregular Argyle,
A brief explanation of the meaning of the word.

What is the so-called "common sense argyle"?
Diamond patterns of the same size are lined up vertically and horizontally,
A pattern in which the diamond pattern is connected in the center by a solid line to make it continuous.
That's normal, common-sense argyle.

On the other hand, "irregular argyle" is...
Because it's not common sense,
The diamond pattern is abnormally wide or narrow vertically or horizontally,
They weren't lined up evenly.
It may not be connected by a solid line,
Combined with other designs.
Such an "unconventional Argyle"
It was hugely popular in the United States in the 1950s.

Argyle is a traditional pattern that originated in England.
So I tried to break down those authoritative things.
Maybe it was a matter of taste at the time.

For example, a page from Montgomery Ward in 1950.

The diamond pattern at the top has an irregular cross pattern,
The pattern is a complex combination of borders and diamond patterns.

and Montgomery Ward in 1955.
The top row is made of argyle with a wonderfully vibrant color scheme!
The bottom row has argyle that is not connected horizontally,
Argyle is even more complex when combined with borders.

Montgomery Ward in 1959.
The upper left is
The thick diagonal lines no longer look like argyle!
The top center features a combination of stripes and polka dots!

Dry Bones socks have been through such a history.

The colors of the top and bottom,
This design features a diamond pattern in the center.

Such Dry Bones,
Original socks designs from over 30 years ago
Even Montgomery Ward's designers were surprised.

This is an archive of the past that has been stored in a warehouse.

and…

This is a personal item I found while rummaging through a drawer at home.
Another lifetime,
I have enough irregular argyle socks to survive on lol

But I made it again.
Because I'm possessed,
There's nothing I can do about it.
Many people buy all the colors every time,
It has become a true collector's item.
Recently,
There has also been an increase in heavy users who purchase two or three pairs of the same color.
The more popular the color, the faster it will sell out.
Please hurry.

One of the fun things about moving back to Tateyama is,
That's gardening.

The other day, I bought a potted canna at a roadside station.

Three pots with different flower colors...
It is called "leaf canna"
I purchased two types to enjoy the leaf patterns and colors.

It has flowers like this,
It is truly a tropical plant.
When it grows bigger again,
I'll let you know!
