The beginning of autumn in 2024 has arrived.
This is Sakemaru.
It's still hot, but autumn has already begun.
Here in Tateyama...
The breeze feels cooler after the evening.
The signs of autumn are gradually beginning to appear.
So I moved the plants in the garden.
Move to a sunny location for winter.
The cycad in my house is growing big.
I wonder if the next move will be planting it in the ground?
Speaking of Sutetsu locally,
The large cycad at Kosena-koji Temple is famous.
As you can see from the shadow,
It has grown larger than the roof of the temple.
Apparently it's the largest cycad in the city.
It has been designated as a natural monument by the city.
It is said to have been dedicated by a sumo wrestler in 1854.
This cycad is the ultimate tropical plant!
So...
This blog is about tropical plants.
Those who have been to Tateyama probably know this...
Take the expressway to the end of Tomiura,
Street trees that appear when entering the bypass.
Yes, palm trees welcome you.
As you can see, there are palm trees all the way from the front to the back.
As someone from Tateyama,
Palm trees have been familiar to me for as long as I can remember.
In Japanese, it is also called "palm tree."
Coconut trees are the fruit that bear coconuts.
Palm trees are not.
If you remember it like this you'll be fine.
And at the end of last year,
I work at a fabric store,
I found this fabric in dead stock.
Palm trees and Diamond Head.
This exists in vintage Hawaiian shirts.
The same pattern as the palm tree from the "Kahanamoku" brand!
I have plenty of memories from my childhood,
Without hesitation, I bought them all.
And then,
The pattern was exactly as shown in this photo.
How should I use it? After much deliberation, I came up with this plan.
This project this time!
Two-tone Hawaiian shirt "Palm Tree"!
The bottom half of the shirt
Palm trees and Diamond Head are visible all around.
To match the color scheme of the pattern...
Two-tone with old gold.
The chest pocket has double welts.
I used patterned fabric for the piping part.
The other color scheme is sepia.

The collar has a classic long point.
The buttons are also elaborately made with coconut buttons.
Sometimes, such irregular switching occurs.
Isn't that innovative?
I actually own a vintage piece with this pattern.
I really love this shirt...
Dry Bones hasn't even opened a vintage shop yet.
Late 1980s.
I spent about 30% of the year living as a picker in the United States.
Basically, we purchase used clothing requested by business partners,
I was buying vintage items to sell at flea markets.
one day.
At a thrift shop in Venice Beach, in the heart of LA,
I found this shirt!
And it's the perfect large size for me.
If I recall correctly, it was $4.99.
I hurried to the register with this shirt in hand...
The white lady in front of me in line
I had a different color, lemon yellow!
It's a scene I still remember vividly.
As someone who buys vintage items,
I also wanted that lemon yellow one (it was extremely expensive even back then).
Today's blog is full of old memories.
It may be that with the beginning of autumn, you are feeling the end of summer.
In my hometown of Tateyama,
Last night was the annual fireworks display.
A sharp crescent moon shone next to the fireworks on the water.
See you later.
