ジャケットのセルフお直し。

Self-repairing a jacket.

Hello, this is Wami from the Osaka store.

First of all, thank you to everyone who came to our Osaka store's 24th anniversary event last month!

We look forward to your continued patronage!

On the last Monday of November, Dry Bones representative Sakemaru will also be visiting Osaka for a short while.

Whenever he comes to Osaka he always takes me out for drinks, and the bar we visited this time was really nice...!

A "speakeasy" bar that meticulously and perfectly recreates the speakeasy bars that were common during the American Prohibition era of the 1920s.

The interior and everything was really cool!!

They said that photography and social media are welcome as long as other customers are not included in the photos.

There is no sign at the entrance, so it feels like only those in the know know about it.

Even though it was a weekday, the store was quite crowded.

The atmosphere is excellent and the staff are extremely attentive!

I'd like to go there again privately.

Please come dressed up in Dry Bones clothes and go there ~ (I'm sure it will match the atmosphere of the store!

Today, I'd like to show you how I altered a denim jacket I recently bought for the first time in a while so that it would fit my body better.

Gold Rush Work Jacket

Size: 36(S), 38(M), 40(L), 42(XL)

I finally bought the item I had been eyeing for a while!!

I always buy size 36(S).

At 151cm tall, she is petite for a woman, but her build is about average.

This is what it looks like when worn as is.

When it's new, the fabric is still crisp and not yet broken in, but the sleeves are long, which makes it look big.

It's possible to wear it with the cuffs rolled up, but this time I'd like to wear it in a just-right size.

Yes, so I'll make it smaller.

All Dry Bones denim products are washed before being sold, so there is no risk of them shrinking after washing after purchase.

In my case, I basically want to shrink the denim, so when I buy denim products, I first fill a bathtub with hot water and soak them in it. (This is already a rough technique.)

It's not dirty yet so I think detergent would be fine.

From there, it is dehydrated and put into the dryer at the laundromat.

This time I tried running it for 40 minutes.

Basically, shrinkage occurs vertically (length, sleeve length), so the horizontal dimensions (chest width, shoulder width) do not change that much.

I've worn it once and the sleeves are still too long.

So I'm going to cut the sleeves.

Since I haven't worn it yet, I decided to cut the sleeves by 3cm, keeping in mind that they might wrinkle and become a little shorter.

Cut including the seam allowance.

Each Dry Bones store has a chain stitch machine that is used to hem jeans, and we use that to sew the garment.

The cuffs are chain stitched, but it's not visible from the front, so it's fine if you don't mind.

Sew in the same way as you would hem jeans.

It's finished so I'll try it on.

Before

After

Just by shortening the sleeves, it feels much better when you're wearing it!

Sleeve length is important. Here's how it looks compared to a new one.

Yes, not much has changed except for the sleeves. Lol

(What do you mean by hot water and dryer...?)

I measured each part and compared them.

Length 62.5cm → 62cm

Shoulder width 41cm → 41cm

Width 51cm → 51cm

Sleeve length 60.5cm → 56cm

*The sleeve length was measured after cutting 3cm, so it was 59cm before cutting.

Amazingly, the numbers were the same across the board.

It seems like the sleeves are the part that is most likely to get shorter.

However, using only hot water and a dryer doesn't seem to make much difference.

After all, it has been washed once...

Well, it's grown to a nice size, so I'm going to keep growing it!

Regarding the jacket sleeves, if there are no decorations or buttons on the sleeves like in this case and chain stitching is okay, we may be able to repair it at the store if you let us know.

If you try it on and feel like it's not your thing, please don't hesitate to ask.

I also had the sleeve length and length of my favorite 2nd Type Denim Jacket altered.

Next February will mark three years of wearing them.

It's much shorter than the new one.

After washing with hot water and drying, the length was cut by 8cm and the sleeve length by 6cm.

After undoing the cuffs and hem, I cut off the parts I wanted to shorten and then sewed them back together.

Although the opening of the cuffs and the spacing of the original buttons will be different from what was originally there, it is possible to make such repairs.

In this case, I think the best thing to do is take it to a place that does remakes and repairs.

For your reference!

Recently, in addition to women, I've also had a lot of slim or small men say that they use my work as a reference, so although I know I'm in the minority, I'd like to send out these kinds of messages from time to time.

Bye now for today.
