The bowler hat originated in the UK and was named after the British hat maker William Bowler. In America it is called a derby hat, and in Japan it is called a top hat. It was originally a riding hat, but it became popular all over the world after being worn by many famous people such as Charlie Chaplin, Alex the protagonist in "A Clockwork Orange", and Nakahara Chuya and Miyazawa Kenji in Japan.
The material is wool felt, which is made by hardening wool, and the hard finish keeps the hat in beautiful shape and allows you to wear it for many years. The crown (the top part of the hat that covers the head) is about 11 cm, the oval brim is about 5 cm in front and back, and about 4 cm wide, the ribbon is about 3.5 cm, and the piping that borders the brim is about 1.5 cm wide.
