We have recreated the work shirt, which would have been worn as prison uniform in American prisons before the 1950s, based on the movie.
The movie referenced was "The Shawshank Redemption."
The film is based on the novel "Rita Hayworth in Prison" by Stephen King, who is also famous for "Stand by Me." The story is set in a prison in Maine in 1947, after the end of the Pacific War.
The inspiration for this is the work shirt worn by the main character, Andy (Tim Robbins), in the prison.
However, this movie was made in the early 1990s, and the work shirt he was wearing was a 1980s hickory stripe work shirt. So, in my own interpretation, it was a hickory stripe work shirt worn by prisoners in the mid-1940s. " I tried making it.
In the film, the work shirts worn from 1947 to 1963 are hickory striped...
The material is the same cotton hickory stripe, but the shape has been significantly modified to be more 1930s style.
The front placket is a bottom-in type that ends halfway, and it also has a long chin strap and stand collar.
As a work shirt, it has pockets on both sides of the chest, but the details are simple and do not have pocket flaps.
A 38mm wide plain woven cotton tape is attached to the left chest, with the prisoner number printed on it to match the setting in the film.
Regular hickory stripe work shirts often use off-white buttons, but the shirt in the movie uses dark urea buttons, so we tried to stay true to the movie.
Stephen King, the author of the original novel, praised it as one of the best films based on his novels, alongside "Stand by Me."
It was also ranked 23rd in the "Top 100 Inspirational American Films" list released in 2006.
This is part of a series of original costume re-issues that I have done in films (such as The Wanderers, Goodfellas, The Godfather Part II, and Taxi Driver).
