This is a reproduction of a shirt that was hugely popular in the 1940s and 1950s, featuring a deliberately printed yarn-dyed pattern.
In the 1950s, it became popular to reuse various textile patterns that were originally created using yarn dyeing by printing them.
For example, argyle is a traditional British knit pattern.
Kasuri, a traditional Japanese kimono weaving pattern,
Checks that originated in India or Africa.
Originally, the pattern was created by dyeing the thread and then knitting or weaving it.
By deliberately printing these traditional patterns, we broke down preconceived notions and created something new.
However, such innovative pattern proposals did not last long, and gradually declined towards the end of the 1950s.
Also around this time, synthetic fibers began to emerge, leading to a new period of over-competition in the apparel industry.
The pattern this time is a large tattersall check with a classic color scheme and a vintage feel.
The shape was a small round long point collar, which was very popular at the time, with two pockets.
This boxy silhouette was popular for everything from under a suit to wearing it as a top with denim.
Enjoy these precious and adventurous textiles that were all the rage for just a few years before disappearing.
