DJ-1208 Double Breast Wool Flannel Work Jacket “YOUNG VITO”

90% wool, 10% nylon

Size 36 (S) is sold out.

This jacket was designed with the idea that it would have existed from the early 1900s to the 1920s.

The name of this jacket, "Young Vito," comes from the jacket worn by Vito Corleone, the protagonist of the movie "The Godfather," in Part 2.

The Godfather Part II tells the story of a young Don Corleone who immigrated to New York from Italy.

In the film, he comes to New York from Sicily at the age of 9. When the immigration officer asks him his name, he doesn't understand because he doesn't understand English, and thinking the officer is asking where he's from, he answers "Corleone (from the village)," and that becomes his name.

The area where young Vito lived must have been made up entirely of Italian immigrants (since he couldn't speak the language). Therefore, it's highly likely that he bought and made his own clothes in an Italian immigrant neighborhood, which means that his designs were likely popular in Italy and other European countries from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.

During this period, double-breasted work jackets made from materials such as thick cotton moleskin and wool melton were popular. Many documents have been found showing not only traveling merchants and factory workers, but also railroad workers and postal workers wearing jackets with this design.

In The Godfather Part II, Robert De Niro's young Vito also wears a double-breasted wool tweed jacket and works at a grocery store. The story is set in 1917, when he and his neighbor Clemenza started their underground business.

The DJ-1208 has been reconstructed based on this research. It is made of thick wool flannel, which is soft and supple despite its thickness, making it suitable for both dressy and work wear.

It has three outer pockets, all with arcuate stitching for a custom-made look. The buttons are two-hole buttons with notched decoration, a design that existed in the early 20th century.

The lining is made of cupra, and the sleeve lining is also made of cupra with yarn-dyed stripes.

Try wearing the classic work style from about 100 years ago along with your film knowledge.
