This jacket is based on a vintage souvenir jacket that actually existed in 1950.
The back features a large embroidered dragon along with the words "FORMOSA" and "KEELUNG," as well as the name of the U.S. Navy destroyer "USS McCAFFERY DDE-860."
"FORMOSA" is a name for Taiwan meaning "beautiful island," and "KEELUNG" refers to Keelung Port, a port city in northern Taiwan. Given the 1950s timeframe, it's presumed this was a commemorative jacket for U.S. Navy crew members stationed in Taiwan during the turbulent East Asian situation before and after the outbreak of the Korean War.
While retaining the ruggedness and souvenir-like feel characteristic of souvenir jackets of that era, Dry Bones has reinterpreted it as a Vietnam-style jacket, using rayon to create a more wearable and refined balance.
