We've reproduced the irregular argyle socks that were popular in the 1950s.

Irregular argyle can be translated as "incorrect argyle."

In other words, it refers to argyle that is not arranged in the correct order.

It refers to socks that are strangely long or long vertically or horizontally, and have an irregular arrangement and color scheme.

This type of irregular argyle was all the rage in the 1950s.

This was a time when diamond patterns, including argyle, were all the rage, and the more irregular the diamond pattern, the more highly valued it was.

The highly elongated argyle pattern seen here is a design characteristic of that era. The vertical stretching of the diamond shapes created the illusion of slimmer ankles, a feature that was apparently well-received at the time.

The pattern itself was borrowed from a 1950s catalogue by an American mail-order manufacturer.

All of Dry Bones' sock series are knitted using a machine called an intarsia knitting machine.

Jacquard can be knitted at a lower cost, but the colour of the bobbin thread shows through to the front, so if you want to bring out the colour beautifully, intarsia will knit more beautifully.
