The project was inspired by the cap worn by the main character Johnny in the 1953 American film "The Wild One," which dealt with American biker gangs.
The film gained popularity for its depiction of the reckless behavior of young men returning from military service, which was a social problem at the time. It was so extreme that it was banned from broadcast in the UK for a while.
The main character was Marlon Brando, a young actor who was on the rise at the time.
Double-breasted motorcycle jacket, five-pocket jeans, a trim T-shirt, engineer boots, and a cotton twill cap with a leather brim.
The film is in black and white, so the actual color is unknown, but it's clearly a pale cotton twill. I think it's a light gray or khaki, in keeping with the workwear of the time.
This cap has been reproduced to make it easier to wear.
Rather than using metal accordion chin straps, which are difficult to obtain, we thought it would be more efficient to make a belt out of the same fabric.
The brim is made of thick, shiny cowhide leather.
We intentionally left out the lining and made it simple with just piping.
It has the same construction as caps from the 1950s, including a metal top button and eyelets on both sides.
This is one of Dry Bones' classics that has been made for nearly 30 years, with occasional changes to the material and color.
Why not try wearing it at an angle to feel like Johnny?
*Here is a similar belt based on the movie.
