L/S Hawaiian Shirt “BEER”
DS-2723 L/S Hawaiian Shirt “BEER”
100% Rayon
Size 42 is sold out.
This is based on the uniform (?) of a Japanese beer manufacturer that existed in the 1950s.
In the 1950s, Hawaiian shirts were used for sales promotion by Japanese beer makers in America. Some of them were from American beer makers, so they were probably popular at the time.
The pale background features beer bottles, maiko, folding fans and lanterns, creating a truly "Japanese" textile design.
On hot summer days, when beer was delicious, salesmen wearing shirts like this would be running around diners and bars.
The vintage items do not have a brand name, and only have the words "MADE IN JAPAN" written on them. Therefore, we assume that they were not sold to the general public.
The material is rayon filament. Thin, strong rayon thread is tightly twisted and woven to give it a glossy, cool feel. It is the best material for Hawaiian shirts.
And one of the features of Dry Bones Hawaiian shirts is that they always make long sleeves, and this also applies to this shirt. People who can only wear long sleeves for various reasons, or who want to wear them under a jacket, choose long sleeves.
In the 1950s, when the scars of defeat in the Pacific War were still very much visible in Japan, these were probably worn by courageous merchants who went to America, a great power, carrying their goods, beer. This is a masterpiece that is rarely seen in the vintage market, and it has been revived.
