This is a reproduction of a shirt that was hugely popular in the 1940s and 1950s, with a deliberately printed yarn-dyed pattern.

In the 1950s, it became fashionable to reuse various textile patterns that had originally been created using yarn dyeing by printing them.

For example, there is argyle, a traditional British knitwear pattern, kasuri, a traditional Japanese kimono woven pattern, and checks that originated in India and Africa.

These patterns were originally created by dyeing the thread and then knitting or weaving it. By deliberately printing these traditional patterns, we broke with preconceived ideas and created something new.

However, such innovative pattern proposals did not last long, and gradually declined towards the end of the 1950s. Also, around this time, synthetic fibers began to appear, and the apparel industry entered a new period of fierce competition.

We have expressed the FADS of that era using deadstock printed fabric.

The design featured a long pointed collar and two pocket flaps, which were all the rage at the time. This boxy silhouette was popular for a variety of occasions, from under a suit to a denim top.

Enjoy these rare and adventurous textiles that were all the rage for just a few years before disappearing.
