The design is based on military prisoner pants, commonly known as prison uniforms, which were made around the 1930s and 1940s.
It is based on the prison uniforms used in the United States, mainly up until World War II. The unusually thick stripes made it easy to see from a distance, which was a great help in preventing escapes.
It has four buttons on the front and six suspender buttons.
Normally, work pants from this era often had metal buttons to make them more durable, but prison uniforms often had urea buttons to prevent escapes. This material would not chip away at the concrete of the prison.
These pants are very specially made...
A single piece of fabric is wrapped around each leg and sewn only along the inside seam, meaning there are no seams on the outside seam.
This is probably part of a design effort to reduce the number of cutting and sewing processes, but this shape has never been used before or since except for military work pants.
Most of the vintage items are made of light-weight denim. The striped top and bottom set is an original from Dry Bones.
You can also wear it as unusual workwear.
Or, if you're a fan of a certain band, you can wear it as a matching outfit.
This item can be paired with a jacket and pants.
