100% Cotton
I found some deadstock textile featuring a palm tree from a vintage Hawaiian shirt from the 1950s, so I decided to create a new pattern for it.
The palm tree design by the Hawaiian shirt brand Kahanamoku in the 1950s is one of the three great vintage Hawaiian shirts, along with the Hyakutora and Ukulele.
We discovered cotton fabric with that pattern, and that's how this project came about.
However, the print itself is about 30cm wide, which is more like a cushion cover than a shirt fabric. So, I decided to make a shirt out of it, cut the bottom half and use the same color for the other parts. The plan was to put together a summary.
In addition, the pockets are welt pockets because they cross over the seams.
We have completed a cotton Hawaiian shirt with a completely new look (but with a mainstream print).
The fabric used this time is deadstock cotton broadcloth made in the United States. We only purchased a small amount of it that was imported to Japan.
The collar is a long-pointed open collar, reminiscent of the early 1950s style.
This pattern is essential for creating a 1950s American look during the hot summer months.
The deadstock fabric was only one color, brown, so I used similar colors for the accents, old gold and sepia.
As this is deadstock fabric, production is limited. Hurry up and get yours.
