It has re-stock!
We have recreated saddle shoes (official name: saddle oxfords), which were hugely popular in the United States in the 1950s.
In the 1950s, Combi's signature saddle shoes became popular across the U.S. along with the Ivy League trend. They were especially popular among teenagers, with most people owning a pair.
Its main feature was the light-colored upper and the dark brown or black "saddle part" that touched the instep. The name "saddle oxford" came from the fact that the instep resembled a saddle used for horse riding, and the word "oxford" (derived from the name of the university) means short shoes worn with laces.
The saddle oxfords designed by Dry Bones feature a distinctive design that was popular in the 1950s.
The basic "saddle" and "oxford" designs have been faithfully reproduced, with some slight modifications.
First, the saddle. Normally, the saddle is sewn from the center of the instep down to the left and right, but the design used by Dry Bones has a part of the leather of the saddle extending backwards to cover the top and connect to the back center.
This design has a slightly spacey feel and was only popular for a short period in the 1950s.
This also reinforces the top part, which is the opening of the shoe.
We also made some changes to the Oxford part. This type of design is called an inner wing style, where the laces go through the leather of the upper and don't open all the way.
Westerners with low and narrow insteps can wear this design well, but for Asians with high insteps, the inner wing style leaves this area open and makes them look rather ugly.
So I talked to the pattern maker at the shoe factory and we decided to extend the tips of the wings by 5 to 8 mm on each side. By doing so, it would be possible to tie the shoe nicely with the laces.
Until now, there have not been many Asians who wear inner wingtip leather shoes beautifully. I am proud that we have been able to make this a reality.
Furthermore, the thin leather on the edge is an original "double edge" specification. The FAD, which was only popular in the 1950s, is expressed on the edge.
Furthermore, the thread on the top of the double edge is intentionally made dark green, which represents the state in which the sewing thread used at the time was black and faded due to its poor durability.
We choose materials and stitching that make the shoes as light as possible, such as synthetic leather soles, pigskin lining, and McKay construction.
We offer classic and elegant leather shoes that are also easy to wear and walk in.
