We've recreated the costumes of the characters from the famous film set in Modesto, California in 1962 .
Modesto, California is located in a warm western region, but it is inland, so it can get surprisingly cold at night.
In such an environment, young people who were into hot rods and other sports often wore thick wool outerwear in their pursuit of speed.
In the film, the members of "The Pharaohs" appear wearing only a short-sleeved T-shirt underneath a wool jacket.
Although it only appears in night scenes, the back of the dark Melton material has chenille with the team name "PHARAOHS" written on it.
This jacket was created by watching this scene over and over again, using stop motion to determine the dimensions and even estimating the placement of the pieces.
The lining is made of smooth cupra material, and we deliberately chose a blue-gray color to complement the dark navy that the characters are wearing underneath.
In addition, we attached a crescent-shaped cloth under the armpits to absorb sweat.
It retains the feel of custom-made jackets from the 1950s.
Generally speaking, the team name on the back is sewn on around the shoulder blades, but...
The area of Modesto is set as a small town that is experiencing depopulation, so the population is declining. As a result, it is thought that over the course of the team's existence, there was a custom of the former members sharing larger jackets (many characters in the film have jackets that are too big).
As a result, some people found the length of their dress to be extremely long, so they deliberately placed the chenille quite low.
We profiled the team name Chenille, which begins around the armpit area, and found that this is the reason.
Additionally, the black dots in the font are likely meant to represent the circular crest of a cobra, as the name Pharaoh is derived from it.
So, I created the sagara embroidery with this design in mind.
Do you remember when and where you saw the movie with the tagline, "Where were you in the summer of 1962?"
This is the jacket that makes you feel that way.
