A mid-length award jacket—or perhaps more accurately described as a collared "car coat"—that was popular only during the 1950s.

While short-length award jackets (often called "letterman jackets") were all the rage in the 1950s, styles from the eras immediately preceding (pre-1940s) and following (post-1960s) almost exclusively featured ribbed collars. In other words, the collared award jacket was a style unique to that specific decade. Similarly, mid-length Melton wool "car coats" overwhelmingly featured ribbed collars. Consequently, a mid-length, collared jacket made of wool Melton is an exceptionally rare find.

We have taken this rare vintage style and given it a "hot-rodder" twist by incorporating leopard-print corduroy panels. The print itself is a faithful reproduction of the pattern worn by the famous 1950s rockabilly icon Gene Vincent—the very same leopard print most coveted by collectors today.

Details such as white piping, side-waist "change pockets," and a ticket pocket on the left sleeve were designed to evoke a motorsport aesthetic. Accordingly, the front closure uses snap buttons, making the jacket easy to put on or take off even while wearing gloves. The pocket pulls feature chains, and the pocket tops are secured with U-shaped stitching—a classic vintage detail. The ribbed cuffs and hem feature a striped pattern and offer a snug, secure fit.

At first glance, it appears to be a flashy mid-length jacket, but a closer look reveals a meticulously crafted masterpiece where every detail has been carefully considered.

The lining features a quilted Cupro finish, making it highly effective as cold-weather outerwear.
