DC-715 Striped Grandpa Shirt
100% Cotton
This is a reproduction of an inner shirt worn before the 1920s, when lapel jackets were the norm.
The main material is jersey (English name: JERSEY) knitted with No. 14 single yarn.
Originally, jersey fabric was often made with 40-count double yarns, and 14-count single yarns were extremely thick and coarsely knit. By choosing this knitting method, I was able to create a "rough jersey feel" reminiscent of the time of World War I.
However, this is a 21st century knitting fabric, and it is tightly knitted, which gives it a firm, crisp feel and a heavy feel.
The ribbed collar and cuffs, which are knitted to match the color of the jersey, are the true essence of this shirt. The special knitting, technically known as "step knitting," is a masterpiece part that was sent to a factory from that time and knitted.
A work from over 100 years ago has been recreated using current technology.
The woven shirt fabric attached only to the front is deadstock.
The classic yarn-dyed stripes are in the shape of a dress shirt called a tuxedo front (also known as "squid chest"), with the stripes only on the chest area.
The shoulder seam where the woven fabric and jersey are sewn together is double stitched with a width of about 10 mm. As you can see from the back side, this thick piping prevents the garment from stretching.
This shirt gained attention when the lead character Leonardo DiCaprio wore it on board the ship in the movie Titanic.
This famous item, from a time when the distinction between underwear and shirts was still unclear, was later reproduced in modern times under the name "Grandpa Shirt."
This cut-and-sew item can be worn in a wide variety of ways, from as a tuxedo shirt to as an inner layer for overalls.
