The 1950s was a time of post-war prosperity, with many people enjoying sports and resorts. Skiing, skating and trekking were all popular in the winter.

At that time, many sports jackets were made from wool, which was readily available, rather than nylon, which had only just begun to be developed. These short wool sports jackets became a standard winter resort wear.
