We have entered the end of summer in 2024.
This is Sakemaru.
The character "所" in this "所祭" is
It means "to fit in."
In other words, it means when the heat subsides.
There are still times when cicadas sing during the day,
At night, you can hear the sounds of autumn insects.
Pine bugs, bell crickets, crickets, and crickets...
The sound of insects makes us feel autumn.
It seems to be a sensibility unique to Japanese people.
Apparently, people overseas just hear it as noise.
Oh yeah, that's right...
This summer, I completed some wonderful "adult homework."
A spider web print plate that I dropped and broke.
I've loved it and used it for decades,
I want to fix it somehow.
And lo and behold! It was perfect timing...
My familiar gallery, Gallery Taskake, will be holding a "Kintsugi Class" in mid-August.
You have no choice but to participate!
Attach with adhesive,
Fill the gaps with putty.
Then paint it gold on top...
This time I also drew silver lines to match the spider web.
It worked well and I'm very happy!
And what's particularly noteworthy is the back side.
Cracks on the back are filled in with red iron oxide.
It looks cool with the veins popping out!
The reason why this repair has been elevated to the level of art is
This is something that is unique to Japan!
Well.
We'd like to introduce you to the denim that has finally arrived in stock in August!
A long-awaited appearance,
Gene Engineering's war model !

The denim itself is the usual 13.5 oz...
Packed with detailed gimmicks!
First…
Also known as "paint stitch"
A gimmick where the pocket stitching is printed.
It's printed on starched denim,
It's starting to peel off during the sewing process...
Please understand that this is also a fun gimmick.
And this is also a famous gimmick.
The pocket lining is not plain.
This time we're using stripes designed for work shirts.
The original items include olive-colored herringbone twill,
Checked flannel fabric was used.
And this is a feature of XX.
Offset center belt loop,
Plus Souon suspender buttons.
I've never seen offset belt loops before!
Someone asked me this, so I uploaded a photo.
This is my personal item, XX.
Strictly offset (off-center).
And this is the literature.
This is a page from a vintage denim magazine published in 2008.
In the introduction of XX in the 1940s,
A war model with suspender buttons is featured.
Actually, when I was 19 years old (40 years ago),
I owned a war model with suspender buttons.
It was rare at the time,
I heard about it from a certain collector.
And then...
In the 1940s,
Apparently, there was an envelope in his pocket containing a so-on button.
However, at that time, there were fewer people wearing pants with suspenders...
There are few people who attach buttons themselves,
Apparently, the entire envelope was often thrown away.
If it's available now, it's extremely rare.
Thinking about such things,
I equipped the belt with Souon suspender buttons.
Furthermore, here's a little bit of trivia about this stitch.
In the sewing industry, it is called "reverse barnuki" or "L-shaped barnuki".
The stitching at the top of the belt comes down and is backstitched.
First, let's take a look at this vintage photo.
This is my personal XX.
It also comes with a turn hook.
View from the back.
The top of the belt is stitched with a single lock stitch...
The bottom of the belt has a single chain stitch.
To hold this chain stitch,
The bar stitching is done all at once with a main stitch at the top.
This sewing method was used until the 1950s.
Because then, in the 1960s...
A chain stitch double stitch sewing machine was developed specifically for attaching belts.
This return hook is no longer necessary.
These behind-the-scenes stories about sewing are fascinating.
By the way, LEVI'S has something called shrink-to-fit...
The denim used is washable and conforms to the body after use.
Denim shrinks vertically.
In other words, the belt that is cut horizontally is
It shrinks horizontally (shrink-to-fit refers to the waist area).
So, to accommodate this lateral shrinkage,
The bottom seam of the belt is made with a flexible chain stitch.
Denim sewing is
Because it's a very dynamic material, we had a lot of trouble with it.

and.
I have now moved to my hometown of Tateyama and am also working in agriculture...
We are also working hard on making processed products.
There's a beautiful laurel tree growing in the garden...
I also made some dried laurel!
This is a type of leaf called a bay leaf, which is often used in stews of meat or fish.
Laurier is French,
Laurel is Japanese,
Laurel is English.
The famous Nissan Laurel (commonly known as Buta-Ketsu)
This is where the name is borrowed from.
So the packaging is kind of designed like that.
